"Gina creates visual and emotional impressions in her fiber art by allowing a relationship between various fabrics to emerge. The stunning results of her dying and sewing techniques energize the direction each art work takes."

Gina began making quilts in the 1970’s following traditional methods, using conventional patterns and accepting the fabrics available. She devoured books on quiltmaking and quilt history analyzing various techniques and historical features of quilting.

Gina began to manipulate traditional patterns to create more complex designs using more sophisticated fabrics and bolder colors. Next Gina began to study techniques for dyeing her own cloth. With her husband’s knowledge of the mathematical side of the experiments, they developed a method of predictable color matching using only magenta, sky blue and lemon yellow. The improvisational nature of putting diverse fabrics together propelled Gina into conceiving of and creating contemporary quilt art.

As soon as Gina developed color matching, she realized what she really wanted to do was splash color onto cloth and wait for the results, great as well as so-so. It’s surprising how often a yukky piece of dyed fabric finds its place unexpectedly. Gina has learned to trust that constant experimentation is where the next new idea will grow. Her work, however, is imbued with a strong discipline. Her artwork reflects a fundamental relation to the basic concepts of art, while illustrating  flawless sewing technique.

Gina is the quilt artist of Quilts4U. Her husband Albert is the expert behind their successful web based quilt art business. Although her quilts have been shown in several galleries in Arizona, with the revolution in the quilt art market, they now market Gina’s quilts directly and primarily on line.

One distinguishing difference of Quilts4U is Gina’s desire to create interactive quilts for children. The Children’s Quilts are especially designed for young children to discover connections through language development. These quilts inspire something personal and beautiful to be shared with another person, to bring pleasure as well as comfort. Gina blends Conversation Prints, solid shades and geometric print fabrics. Black accents add visual pop and drama. Children don’t seem to have a bias against the color black. The quilt layouts themselves are engaging to the eye. Gina selects only high quality cotton and batting, no knock off or bargain fabrics.

Quilts4U also sells sets of note cards featuring art from Gina’s Contemporary Quilt Art Catalog, displayed in the website Catalog. The quilts featured on the note cards are in private collections from London to New York and Los Angeles.
