How do we make the Quilts4U Children’s quilts? |
|
How does the process of creating each unique quilt begin? As I start the initial design work, thoughts grow and develop on the flannel design wall from the fabrics I have available, from an image I might see in a magazine, or from a fleeting view of an appealing angle, or an attractive color combination I notice, or from nothing in particular.
The thing to do is just get started and begin sewing bits of fabric together from my stash using my Bernina sewing machine. Each child’s quilt is on a unique journey from the initial idea stage, the sorting through boxes of fabric stage, the cutting up whatever I select for ongoing sewing decisions, positioning and placing more patches to the growing quilt on the design wall, rearranging, adding perhaps some sashes, more patchwork and the final borders. Color, design and visual texture are constantly evolving through the over 25 hours it takes to create one of the Children’s quilts from Quilts4U.
Whether I have a specific child in mind or if I am designing and quilting because I love manipulating fabric, building up designs into a pleasing pattern, it’s an evolution every time.
