Artist - Judy Choate

"Judy captures the restless movement of earth's skies along with the serenity and the power of timeless land formations by weaving shapes with brilliant colors and energetic brush strokes." This is the quote that opens her website wJudyww.artwithpassion.com. Once you view the selection of paintings, you will likely agree with that description.
Judy Choate was born in Wisconsin, but raised in Eureka, California. During her teenage years, her family moved down to the San Francisco Bay area on the Peninsula where she finished high school and attended San Mateo Junior College. Once she turned 20 years old, she joined United Airlines as a flight attendant and flew with that company for 18 years. While working with United, she met her husband, a pilot for the company. They have lived in Maryland, Nevada and now Arizona.
Even though Judy had taken some classes in drawing and watercolor through the years, she believes that the most important and influential courses have been the classes she has enjoyed in the past 7 years since moving to Arizona. Judy also had a major 'awakening' in 2006 when she worked on closing up a deceased aunt's estate. Her aunt had been an artist in San Mateo and then Santa Monica for many years.
It was in June of 2008 that she finally started painting with acrylics on canvas for the first time and discovered her way of art, which continues to evolve. It has been totally self-taught. In September of 2008 the Ratliffs asked her if she would like to be represented in their gallery, which to Judy was a great honor. Judy had her first show with the Ratliff Gallery in December.
"All I can say about my art is that it creates a great desire for me to explore new color palettes, movements, shapes, designs and ideas. My husband and I take road trips; I love to view the varying vistas of the Southwest and the Four Corners area. I try to absorb as much as I can into my subconscious and then see what comes out on canvas."

Judy Choate is a Featured Artist at the James Ratliff Gallery in Sedona Arizona.
